first_imgA new production of Brian Friel’s much loved classic, marking the play’s 25th anniversary of its premiere.Presented by Lyric Theatre, Belfast  in association with the inaugural  Lughnasa International Friel Festival (August 20-31) – Ireland’s first annual cross border arts festival. Winner of an Olivier Award and a Tony Award, Dancing at Lughnasa is one of the most acclaimed and loved Irish plays of recent times.Set in County Donegal in 1936 during the Celtic harvest festival of Lughnasa, the play tells the story of the five Mundy sisters and their brother Jack, who has returned home from the missions after 25 years away. The story is told by the sisters’ nephew, Michael, who recalls the summer spent with his aunts when he was seven years old.  As August gives way to September, Michael recounts his memory of childhood in his native Ballybeg, where his aunts raised him in their crumbling, rural home and where once they danced.   A wild, raucous dance.   A dance to the exciting, fleeting melody of the past and a dance against the harsh, progressive beat of the present. One of the greatest plays ever written, this is a play about dance – the dream-wild dance of our memories. This new production, which marks the 25th anniversary of the play’s premiere in Dublin, is directed by award-winning Annabelle Comyn.Charlie Bonner -Michael EvansDeclan Conlon -Father Jack MundyCatherine Cusack -Agnes MundyVanessa Emme – Christina MundyCara Kelly – Maggie MundyCatherine McCormack – Kate MundyMary Murray -Rose MundyMatt Tait -Gerry EvansFor further information on the Lughnasa International Friel Festival please visit  www.lughnasainternationalfrielfestival.com or call the box office on 0749120777 (INT: 00353 749120777).Category: Drama / HighlightsDate: Thursday 20 August 2015 – Sunday 23 August 2015Time: Thursday to Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2.30pmTickets: Thurs – all tickets €20 or buy four for €70Fri/Sat €25/€20Sunday matinee €20/€15Book now!BOOK YOUR TICKETS NOW FOR DANCING AT LUGHNASA AT THE AN GRIANÁN THEATRE was last modified: August 14th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:EntertainmentFeaturesnewslast_img read more
