It’s common knowledge that walking can be beneficial to a person’s health, but now, thanks to the B.C. Ministry of health, it can benefit your community as well.Currently taking place and ending on September 19 is the Healthy Families B.C. Walking Challenge, a challenge promoting a more active lifestyle within families, with the opportunity to win great individual, as well as community, prizes.- Advertisement -Participants are asked to map their walks, as well as share their personal walking experiences online. The more a person posts, the greater their chances at winning prizes such as; a pedometer, family prize packs or the grand prize, one of six family trips to a popular B.C. destination.As of Friday, Fort St. John is in second place in the 10,001-25,000 population category. The Energetic City is sandwiched between first place Oak Bay, B.C. and third place Williams Lake.The idea of this challenge is to motivate families across the province to not only increase their physical activity through walking, but to also maintain a healthy lifestyle as a lifelong commitment.Participants can also benefit their communities just by sharing their stories, videos or photos of a favourite walk. Weekly prizes such as sport equipment and pedometers are be awarded to communities all over the province as well.Advertisement The grand prizes of cash totalling $100,000 will also be awarded to various communities at the conclusion of the challenge.
