What makes a great brand?

first_imgIn fact, before attempting to answer this question, it’s probably important to define what, exactly, a brand is? For me a brand is the complete experience and manifestation that a company produces, and how it is then internalized by the consumer. Candidly, that’s a little bit vapid when you consider that piles of business books and courses have been written and conducted to explain what a true brand is. Still, the brand is the experience that a consumer has when it comes to product, price, promotion and place. Now, what brand is truly “great” in your estimation? It’s not always the biggest, the most profitable or the most well known. One could argue that you would need to hit those three mountaintops to be considered “great,” and that’s fair enough. Does size make a brand great? I know many great brands that many of you would question. Some think Apple is a great brand. Many hate it. Same could be said for just about any brand. Still… let’s push on this together: What makes a great brand?Let’s make a list of what makes a brand great… continue reading » ShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblrlast_img read more

Election predictions lead financial industry to donate to House Dems

first_img continue reading » As pre-election polling hints that Democrats are poised to possibly win control of the House in the next Congress, the securities and investment industries – as well as banks – are giving more money to Democrats, especially moderate ones. Democrats only need 23 seats to overtake the majority; pollsters are suggesting they could win as many as 43 seats.Bloomberg recently reported that the securities and investment industries have given $56.8 million to Democratic congressional candidates and $33.4 million to Republicans this election cycle, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics. The same data show that bankers – who most often prefer Republicans – are also giving a helping hand to Democrats: The industry has spent $8.5 million supporting Democrats and $13.5 million backing Republicans.More moderate Democrats, such as those that helped create and pass the NAFCU-backed S. 2155, are garnering more support as the financial services industry hopes regulatory relief efforts will continue in 2019.Unlike the House, polling projections have the Senate remaining in the Republican majority. Senate Democrats have 26 seats up for reelection; Republicans, only nine. ShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblrlast_img read more

At the cow wash: Pakistanis scrub Eid animals at car cleaners

first_imgIn the run-up to the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, Karachi car-wash owner Sheikh Sagheer sees much of the traffic at his business switch from four wheels to four legs.Locals bring him their cattle, sheep and goats for a thorough scrub down ahead of the animals’ sacrifice during the three-day religious holiday, which begins Friday in Pakistan.Sagheer, 42, said the cow wash started when he was spotted cleaning his sacrificial animal ahead of Eid after opening his business a few years ago. Topics : “The charge is 100 rupees, which is nothing,” said Mohammad Uzair, who brought in a large grey cow for a wash.Across Pakistan, between eight and 10 million animals are sacrificed over Eid al-Adha, according to the Pakistan Tanners Association.Sagheer says cleanliness is especially important because of the coronavirus pandemic.”I make it a point to sanitize the animal with disinfectants,” he said.center_img “The people who saw me washing the animal came to me with their own… that’s how this trend started,” Sagheer told AFP.Many of the animals come from a huge market on the outskirts of Karachi — reputed to be the largest Eid cattle bazaar in Asia — that is packed with goats, cows, bullocks, sheep and camels. The creatures are often dirty, dusty and speckled with dung after being transported then packed together at the market.Sagheer charges just 100 rupees (about 60 cents) for a wash — which includes a soak with a pressure hose, a lather with suds, a scrub and a rinse.last_img read more

Denis Lebedev, former world cruiserweight champion, retires at 39

first_imgLebedev finishes with a 32-2-1 win-loss record, 23 by knockout (a loss to Guillermo Jones in 2013 was later changed to a no-contest when Jones failed a drug test).Interestingly, some argue that Lebedev might best be remembered for two losses: the one to Jones that was changed and a controversial split-decision against Marco Huck for the WBO cruiserweight title in December 2010. Powered by Firework Brazilian starlet Reinier Jesus choosing to join Real Madrid is further confirmation of LaLiga as the primary destination for the world’s leading emerging stars.Advertisement  Advertisement   Advertisement       Hugely talented attacking midfielder Reinier has completed his transfer from Brazilian club Flamengo to Madrid having turned 18 years old, and will move to Spain after representing his country at this month’s South American 2020 Olympic Games qualifying tournament. The Brasilia-born teenager, whose technique and vision recalls former Madrid Galactico and 2012 LaLiga winner Kaka, signed for Madrid despite interest from many of Europe’s other top clubs. The Bernabeu outfit’s interest in Reinier fits with their long-standing policy of recruiting outstanding young talents from Brazil, most recently forwards Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior, but previously current midfielder Casemiro [signed in 2013] and vice-captain Marcelo [2007]. Uruguayan midfielder Fede Valverde, now a fixture with the first team, also joined Los Blancos aged just 18 from his home country in July 2016.Following that successful model, Reinier will get a chance to find his feet in Spain playing at first for the club’s youth team: Real Madrid Castilla, in the Segunda B third tier, whose coach is the legendary number ‘7’ Raúl González, while also training and gaining experience day to day with Zinedine Zidane’s senior side. Vinicius will be close by to help out, having been a colleague in Flamengo’s academy before joining Madrid in summer 2018.Reinier is a different type of player than Vinicius or Rodrygo – a modern and versatile playmaker, comfortable in a number of different positions. As a central number 10, his impressively mature vision and creativity can unlock tight defences. The right-footer can also start towards the left of midfield, from where he can cut inside to link with the centre-forward or shoot himself.Goals are a big part of his game – he scored six times in his first 14 appearances for Rio de Janeiro-based Flamengo’s senior team during Brazil’s Serie A 2019 season. On his first start in August he made a huge splash with a goal and assist against Avai. Coach Jorge Jesus carefully managed his introduction, but also quickly recognised the potential of the youngster, who hit further key goals against Fortaleza and Bahia as Flamengo eased to their first national title win in a decade. The statistics show Reinier’s composure in front of goal – he converted one of every 2.66 shots at the target, the second highest rate of any player in Brazil last season. Portuguese coach Jesus also allowed the youngster to gain further valuable experience as Flamengo won last year’s Copa Libertadores, and made the final of the Club World Cup against Liverpool. The Brazilian national set-up has closely followed the emergence of a player whose father Mauro Brasilia won the FIFA-endorsed indoor football World Cup with the Brazil national team in Spain in 1985. Reinier first featured with his country’s Under-15 side, then scored three goals in four goals at March 2019’s Under-17 South American championships in Peru.Given his emergence as a top talent, Reinier has now been unsurprisingly called-up by Brazil for this month’s Pre-Olympic Tournament, which decides which South American countries play at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Despite being the youngest member of an U-23 squad, he has scored in both the team’s warm-up games and looks certain to feature during the tournament in Colombia. Then it will be time for his next adventure in LaLiga with Real Madrid, once he has signed a contract for six seasons and a half, until 2026. Advertisementlast_img read more
